Herman Junior Smith age 88 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in the Waddell Nursing Home.

Mr. Smith was born on July 6, 1922 in Carroll County, Virginia to Ray and Arlie Richardson Smith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Billie H. Smith, son Jimmy Smith, sister Audine Lineberry, brothers Willard, Clifford, Gene, Bob and Ernest Smith.

He is survived by his wife Maude Walker Smith; daughter and son-in-law Bobbie and Ed Hatfield all of Galax, Virginia; granddaughter April Kegley Acquaviva; great-grandson Tyler James Acquaviva; step-daughter and husband Mary and J.B. Gardner of Hillsville, Virginia; step-granddaughter and husband Karen H. and Randy Phelps; sisters-in-law Wilma Smith, Dorothy Smith and Celene Smith all of Galax, Virginia; Shelby Hinson of Mt. Airy, North Carolina; brother-in-law and wife John and Helen H. Byrd of Raleigh, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, April 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Snow Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ernie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior the funeral service at the church. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Snow Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1307 Galax, Virginia 24333.
