Herbert D. Whittaker, age 80, Fries, VA, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax, He was born in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee to Mr. & Mrs. Joe Whittaker on the date of Aug. 8, 1927.

Surviving is his wife, Stella Funk Whittaker, one granddaughter and spouse, Kimberly & Chad Ramsey of Woodlawn, great-grandchildren, Thomas Carl Ramsey, Blake Edward J. Ramsey, Marcus Alexander Ramsey, Marlene Rose Ramsey and one sister, Sue Ellen Murrell of Tennessee.

Graveside service & burial will be held Wednesday, 2:00 PM, Feb. 20, 2008 in the Summerfield Cemetery with the Reverend Charlie Bailey officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Grayson County VFW Post #7726.

The family will receive friends at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, on Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
