May 6, 1944 – July 10, 2021
On July 10, 2021 Reverend Herbert Randolph Morris was called to Heaven while at his home in Galax, VA. Randy was born on May 6, 1944 in Giles County VA to Cloyd Crockett Morris and Reba Jane Tibbs Morris. Welcoming him to his heavenly home were his beloved parents, son Shawn Morris, sister Geneva Summerford, and brothers Crockett Morris, Robert Morris, and Ross Morris.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol Sue Morris of 56 years, daughter Michelle Cassell (husband Dr. Jamie Cassell) and six grandchildren; Hannah Musser (husband Keith Musser), Dr. Hailey Cassell, Holly Cassell, Hayden Cassell, Dylan Morris and Karly Morris. He is also survived by his brother Sammie Morris (wife Mildred Morris).
Randy graduated with a B.A. from Duke Divinity School and an Associates from Wytheville Community College. He dutifully served the Lord as a minister for 53 years; 45 years for the United Methodist Church and served 8 years at the First Christian Church of Galax. He also served as the youth camp counselor at Camp Dickinson and was president of the Ministerial Association for 8 years. Randy touched the lives of many people and several communities that he came into contact with, which he loved dearly. He was full of compassion, kindness, and love for the Lord; always seeing the best in others.
He was a dedicated and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend never missing a chance to be with those he loved. His grandchildren absolutely adored their "papaw" and will treasure all the special memories they shared together.
Randy lived a full and warm life, filled with love and joy. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bridle Creek United Methodist Church at the address of 15 Bridle Creek Road, Independence, Virginia 24348 to the attention of Mary Young and to West Galax United Methodist Church (building fund) P.O. Box 656, Galax, VA 24333.
Visitation will be held on Monday July 12th from 6:00PM-8:00PM at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax, VA. The funeral will be held on Tuesday July 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Bridle Creek United Methodist Church with Reverend Ted Anders and Reverend Richard Gregory officiating with a burial following at Bridle Creek Cemetery.
