Helen Irene Smith, 89, of Galax, Virginia passed away October 5, 2014 at the Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born February 7, 1925 in Galax, Virginia to Tom Bullion and Grace Hodges Bullion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roy Lee Smith, son Carlton Wayne Stump, sister Marie McBride, brothers Junior Bullion and Colen Bullion.

She is survived by daughter Christine Ann Rector and her husband Bill of Woodlawn, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Rodger Dale Stump and his wife Donnie of Nashville, North Carolina;
daughters-in-law Sandy Williams and husband Ray of Danville, Kentucky and Mary Ann Stump of Pinnacle North Carolina; grandchildren and spouses: Tonya Lawson Aranda and Michael; Trina Lawson; Lisa Euler and Dave; Richard Stump and Lisa; Marinda Arachikavitz and Dan; Dana Myers and Jim; Patrick Stump and Jessica; Lisa Hansen and Aaron; Paula Turner and Jeff, Denzil Anderson and Gwen; sister Norma Jean Melton. Twenty-seven great grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM in Monta Vista Cemetery, 1031 Glendale Road, Galax, Virginia, Pastor Rodney Christman officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends Friday October 10, 2014 from 6 until 8 o'clock at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
