Leath Boyd
June 5, 1942 – January 12, 2020
On Sunday January 12, 2020, Helen Burcham Leath Boyd went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Helen was born to the Rev. Basil and Edith Rippey Burcham on June 5, 1942 in Carroll County, Virginia. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Agnes Bryant and a step-daughter Brenda Quesenberry.
She studied cosmetology and went on to become a teacher for 30 years in a private school and with the Virginia School System. She taught Cosmetology in both Galax and Patrick County High Schools. She was an avid Bluegrass music fan and also loved reading and gardening. She was an active member of Freedom Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law LaDonna and Jimmy Haley of Pinnacle, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law Myron and Doris Leath of Woodlawn, Virginia; step-daughter and husband Dyan and Ronnie Handy of Meadows of Dan, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law Rita and Michael Bunn of Woodlawn, Virginia; grandsons and spouses Seth and Brenda Leath and their daughters Savannah and Emma; Shane and Lindsey Leath and their daughters Bethanie and Makayla; step-granddaughters Danielle Boyd, Emily Handy , Melanie Handy and Jessica Handy; step-grandsons Lee Boyd and spouse Karen and Adam Martin; seven step-great-grandchildren and two nieces.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Crooked Creek Cemetery with Pastor John Leek officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
