Hazel Marie Bratton Rakes age 91 of Woodlawn, Va. formerly of Fries, Va. passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at her home.

Mrs. Rakes was born on July 23,1917 in Pulaski County, Va. to William Clarence & Lillian Agnes Snavley Bratton.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Willie Gordon (Bill) Rakes.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Roberta Rakes Mabe of Fries, Va.; Frankee & Dick Carrico of Woodlawn, Va.; son & daughter-in-law Paul & Sally Rakes of Woodlawn, Va.; sisters Catherine Bell of Salem, Va.; Mazzie Wolfe of Marion, Va.; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Terri Gregory and Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from six until service time at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.

Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Twin County Hospice or the National Kidney Foundation.

Burial will be Sunday, May 17,2009 at 3:00 pm in the Fries Cemetery.
