Obituary

Hazel Lee Cato McLawhon, 85, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Born June 26, 1932 and raised in Galax, Virginia, she was the daughter of Philip Maddox and Hazel Hackler Cato.

She is survived by three children, Greg (wife Cindy), Ann (husband Jim) and Susan; seven grandchildren, Krissy, Katy, Kelly, HaLee, Hannah, Chris (wife Beth), and Betsy; and six great grandchildren, Kamron, Brock, Kennedy, Ray Ray, Clayton and Cooper. She is also survived by her only sister, Mary Beth Waddell of Winston-Salem, NC and Mary Beth's four children, Teresa, Patsy, Beth and Nancy.

For those who were fortunate to know Hazel Lee, she lived a life defined by extending much love to all people and as a result was loved by so many. Hazel Lee loved her hometown of Galax nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Living in these mountains filled her heart with such joy and peace. She will be dearly missed on this earth but we celebrate her entry into her heavenly home where she is whole, healthy and in the presence of our loving Savior.

Please join us in celebrating her well lived life at the First United Methodist Church in Galax, VA on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm and the celebration of her life at 3:00 pm with a graveside service immediately following at Felts Cemetery.
