Hazel Mae Alley age 95 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 in the Galax Health and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Alley was born in Carroll County, Virginia on July 9, 1923 to Robert and Clarsie Smythers Porterfield. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Alley; infant daughter Elizabeth Grimes; sons Larry Wayne Grimes and Gilmer Allen Grimes; siblings Zella Phipps; Ray Porterfield and Buford Porterfield.

She is survived by her daughters Jean Harvey and Bobbie Dean Williams; sons and daughter-in-law Foster Grimes; Roger and Vada Grimes; daughter-in-law Jewel Grimes all of Galax, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, August 17, 2018 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Robert Phipps and Pastor Mike Couch officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Twin County Hospice.
