"H.B." Blair, Ii
February 26, 1958 – January 3, 2020
Haywood Harold Blair, II, affectionately called H.B. by family and friends, was born on February 26, 1958 to Haywood Blair, I and Peggy Goins Blair at Fort Polk Military Base in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. Haywood attended the Rosenwald Felts Elementary School until desegregation compelled him to be educated in the Galax City Schools. He graduated from Galax High School in 1976, where he was a premier athlete excelling in basketball. He also attended Wytheville Community College, working towards a degree in Business Management. Of his marriage to Bertha Grubb, Joshua Juan Blair, his pride and joy, was born.
HB worked in many capacities during his career. Following in his father's footsteps, Haywood started at the Hanes Textile Plant in Galax, VA, later owned by Sara Lee and National Textiles. He worked there from 1980-2004. During those years he worked in the Yarn Department, then to Yarn Department Instructor, to Quality Control Auditor, and ultimately serving as Yarn Department Supervisor and Shipping Supervisor. Following that, H.B. moved to Rocky Mount, NC to work for QVC as a supervisor. HB was a go getter, trailblazer, and a true entrepreneur. He would go on to earn his Real Estate Agent and Insurance licenses. His recent employment included contracting for the State of North Carolina completing home property surveys. He worked hard and strived to be an example to his son, Joshua, at all times.
In his teens, Haywood witnessed the dynamic spiritual conversion of his mother, Peggy, whose life was radically changed when she gave her life to Jesus Christ. Seeing the transformation in her and his family, would eventually have a dynamic impact on Haywood. He went on to accept Christ as his Savior and in 1994 joined Living Waters Christian Center in Galax, VA and served as an usher and in other capacities. He later attended Word Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount serving in various capacities. He loved God and took pleasure in sharing the good news of God's love with as many as possible.
Haywood departed this life suddenly and unexpectedly on January 3, 2020 to take his heavenly residence. He was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Janel Blair Hash. He leaves to cherish his life and legacy his son, Joshua Blair of Wytheville, Virginia . One brother and one sister-in-law, Jermaine (Ginny) Blair of Charlotte, North Carolina. Five Sisters and 5 brothers-in-law, Judith Williams of Radford, Virginia, Jacqueline and James Bryan of Sparta, North Carolina, Janet and Pastor Harry Grubb, Max Meadows, Virginia, Jessica and Bishop Sidney Beamer of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jewell and Pastor Junius Moyler of Chesapeake, Virginia , Jeffory Hash of Roanoke, Virginia and Justina and Bishop David Reid of Greensboro, NC.
A host of cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. His father's oldest niece and special cousin to HB, Gaye Woods, his beloved goddaughter, Shea Fox and precious godson, D'shawn Crockett both of Galax, Virginia also survive.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the First Christian Church, Galax, Virginia with Bishop Sidney Beamer and family officiating. Burial will follow in the Oldtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 Noon until service time.
