Harvey James Welsh, 92, of Galax, Virginia passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at Waddell Nursing Home. James was born March 25, 1924 in Newport News, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his mother Ila Cox Boaz; father Harvey James Welsh; step father Bill Boaz; and wives Mary Ruth Cox and Agnes Plummer.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Faye Cole Welsh of the home; step daughter Ann Sawyer and Tim of Woodlawn, Virginia; step son Jeffrey Plummer of Independence, Virginia; step grandchildren Lorianne and Luke Motsinger of Charlotte, North Carolina; Luke and Abi Sawyer of Lynchburg, Virginia; special niece Patricia Dunkley, husband Bill and two (2) children of Chesapeake, Virginia; special nephew Steven Jenkins, wife Jennifer and three (3) children of North Carolina with many friends and church family at Woodlawn United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Terri Gregory and Rev. Dina Clower. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time. Inurnment will follow in Monta Vista Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Grover King Post VFW #1116.
