Obituary

Harry Lee Pack of Fries, Virginia joined the love of his life, his wife Peggy on Wednesday May 22 2024.
Harry was born in Cripple Creek, Virginia on October 11, 1938 to Richard Lee and Edna Mae Jonas Pack. In  addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by  his wife Peggy Sparks Pack; sister Katie Jones and brother Jake Pack; brothers-in-law Edward Jones and Johnny Grubb.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law Regina Pack Eller and husband Ray of Galax, Virginia;  Judith Pack of Roanoke, Virginia; his beloved grandson and wife Tyler and Christina Rash of Roanoke, Virginia; brothers Dana "Dickie" Pack and Debbie of Cripple Creek, Virginia; Rex Pack and Rachel of Cripple Creek, Virginia; Rodney Pack of Cripple Creek; sisters Nancy Grubb of Marion, Virginia; Iva Scherberger and Rick; and Leisa Pack of Wytheville, Virginia;  as well as many nieces and nephews.

The second of nine children, Harry grew up Cripple Creek, Virginia--the best place in the world-- where he had many great adventures. He was taught about God and his love by his mother. His faith was strong throughout his life. He talked often about how very blessed he was and that all he wanted was for people to think of him and say "that Harry, he was a good old fella."

Harry began working on the family farm with his Paw Paw Floyd Jonas very early in life as well as many other neighbor farms. He   started working at Beverly Mill at the age of 13.  In his late teen years, he left his beloved home to move to Baltimore, MD to work at Bethlehem Steel mill. After Baltimore, he came back to Fries and worked in road construction until he retired at the age of 77. During his employment with Pendelton Construction, English Construction and DLB Construction, he was involved in many major highway and bridge projects to include the I-77/I-81 completion between Ft. Chiswell and Wytheville and the Christiansburg bypass, and various sections of Interstates 40, 85 and 95.

Harry had such a thirst for learning and especially loved history, wildlife and fell deeply in love with elephants as a young boy while devouring every word and photo in his aunt's National Geographic magazines.

A very special thanks to his caregiver Shelby Kirby, her son Drake who Harry lovingly called Stryker, and son Logan. They became family to us. Also, thank you to the staff of Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center for their care since September and Medi Hospice for assisting him with his transition.
