Harold C. Smith, 90, of Galax passed away Friday July 5, 2013 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. He was born November 28, 1922 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Claude A. Smith and Alta R. Jennings Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Higgins Smith and brothers Ralph and Porter Smith.

Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galax and a life time member of the Grover King VFW Post 1115.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Gary & Betty Smith of North Wilkesboro, NC; granddaughter & husband: Jennifer Johnson & David of Wilkesboro, NC; grandson and wife: Gary Smith II and Tonya of Wilkesboro, NC; five grandsons: Jordan Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Tate Johnson, Jonathan Smith and Zachary Smith all of Wilkesboro, NC; sisters and brother-in-law: Virginia Carr; Edna & R. L. Todd all of Galax, Virginia and sister-in-law Sue Mawyer also of Galax, VA.

The funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until service time.
Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Grover King VFW Post 1115.
