Harold Kenneth Payne better known as H.K. Payne age 92 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday,   January 18, 2026 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mr. Payne was born on June 2, 1933 in Carroll County, Virginia to Wilbur Barnett and Odessa Hawks Payne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Kathy Cooley Wright and a brother Carlos Payne.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Joel Dean and Norma Payne; brother-in-law Ron Wright all of Galax, Virginia; nieces and spouse Tammy Meadows of Elkin, North Carolina; Lisa and Bobby Moody of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; nephews and spouses Scott and Kelly Cooley of Beaufort, South Carolina; John and Miranda Cooley of Galax, Virginia.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Randy Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Coal Creek Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726.
