Harold Dean Funk, 77 years old, of Fries, Virginia, affectionately known as "PawPaw," passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at Mountain Valley Hospice House in Dobson, North Carolina, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 1, 1947 in Fries, Virginia, to the late Dan and Ethel (Hill) Funk, Harold was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose steadfast love and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Known for his tireless work ethic, integrity and sense of humor, Harold brought warmth and joy to those around him. His role as a grandfather was especially treasured, making him a beloved figure within his family and community.
Harold is survived by his two daughters and sons-n-law, Cheryl and Arnold Grimm of Galax, Virginia and Tina and Jimmy Morrow of Knightdale, North Carolina; grandchildren Marcus (Rechell) Hutchens, Nikki (David) Weddle, Gavin (Katie) Grimm, Patrick Morrow, Dawson Morrow, and Kali Morrow; great-grandchildren Brasen Hutchens, Kaiola Hutchens, Rowan Weddle, and Slater Grimm.
Harold's life was a testament to kindness, faith, and devotion. He was always present for those he cared about—offering unwavering support and love. His strong faith in Jesus was a guiding light throughout his life and will continue to inspire his family and others for generations to come. Harold's legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at Fries Pentecostal Church in Fries, Virginia, on Thursday January 9, 2025 with Pastor Gary Riffe officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00PM until the time of the service. A burial will follow in the church cemetery.
