Guyda Hall
Hedrick
May 6, 1924 – April 7, 2019
THIS IS A COURTESTY ANNOUNCEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE FAMILY.
Guyda Hall Hedrick, 94, of Roanoke went Home on Sunday, April 7, 2019. She was born in Carroll County, VA on May 6, 1924 and moved from Galax to Roanoke to attend the National Business College. After graduation, she began her career at the Appalachian Power Company, where she worked until retirement. She made many friends there and spoke highly of her career with the Power Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Y. B. and Maude Mitchell Hall; infant brother, Robert Carlin Hall; brother, Y. B. Hall; sisters, Gladys Cruise and Maudleene Cochran. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eva Sue Hall; nephews, Rick Hall, J. B. Cruise; nieces, Shirley Marshall, Marie Sullivan, Alta Vaughn; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Guyda attended Greene Memorial United Methodist Church for many years and Cave Spring Baptist Church for over 30 years. She sang in the Thursday Morning Music Club chorus after retirement and enjoyed the Roanoke Symphony, Mill Mountain Theatre and other cultural events.
Guyda loved beauty-the beauty of marvelous music, well performed; the beauty of the well-crafted word; the beauty of the natural world, with flowers ranking high; the beauty of friendships old and new, but especially those that endured over decades and distance; the beauty of caring, generous people, so many of whom supported her final days.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Cave Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Stanley officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at New Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery, Woodlawn, VA. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Roanoke Rescue Mission would be most appreciated.
