Gregory Fred Patton age 49 of Pipers Gap Road Galax, Va. passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006. He was born to William A. Patton , Jr. & Betty Jewel Cockerham Patton on March 8, 1957. He is survived by one son Christopher Ryan Patton and his parents of Galax, Va.. Greg was a graduate of Carroll County High School, Roanoke College and University of Richmond School of Law. He joined the Cooley and Compton Law Firm, Hillsville, Va. and later established his private practice.Health problems forced him to close his practice. An avid golfer, Greg served on his high school and college golf teams and enjoyed the game as long as his health allowed him to play. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arthur & Susie Patton of Galax; his maternal grandparents, Fred & Nora Cockerham of Pipers Gap of Galax, Va. In addition Greg is survived by a number of uncles & aunts, a host of cousins and many special friends. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 3:30 PM in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Marvin Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from seven until nine at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Floral arrangements are appreciated or contributions may be made to the Pipers Gap Rescue Squad, American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in memory of Greg.
