Grace Johnson Smoot, 98, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab, Galax, Virginia. Mrs. Smoot was born March 10, 1917 in the Baywood Community of Galax to Isaac and Eveline Smith Johnson. In addition to parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Verlin Smoot.

Mrs. Smoot is survived by four children: daughter and son-in-law: Virginia and Forest Newman; son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Shirley Smoot all of Galax ; Sam and Veronica Smoot of Charlotte, North Carolina and George Smoot of Quinton, Virginia. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law: Andrew and Essie Johnson of Low Gap, North Carolina; Frank and Alene Johnson and Russell and Barbara Johnson all of Lexington, North Carolina. Eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 5:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Sam Bartlett officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.

Interment will be Monday, June 1,2015 at 10:00 AM in the Monta Vista Cemetery.
