Goldie Beamer Rakes, age 93, of Fries, VA, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 in the Waddell Nursing Home, Galax, VA.

Mrs. Rakes was born July 5, 1917 at Woodlawn, VA to Posey Beader
and Annie O. Marshall Beamer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Arnold Rakes and sisters and brothers; Pauline Barger, Mattie Landis, Iva Lou Gillespie, Virgil Beamer and Clarence Beamer. Surviving are four sisters; Irene Melton, Greensboro, NC, Virginia Spraker, Pulaski, VA, Hattie Landis, Covington, VA and Pearl Davis, Covington, VA. Several nieces & nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Cliffview Church of God with burial to follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The officiating minister will be the Rev. Ron Hill.
The family will receive friends from 6:0 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, VA.
