Glenn Roy Shumate age 68 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in Northern Surry Hospital. Mr. Shumate was born on November 4, 1939 in Carroll County, Va. to Oscar Marshall & Annie Jones Shumate. He is survived by his wife Celene Patton Shumate of Galax, Va.; children and their spouse Betty & James Talbert of Kernersville, N.C.; Glenda Shumate Cline of Lexington, N.C.; Sarah Shumate & Shannon Shumate both of Galax, Va.; Reavis James & Karen Shumate of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jeffrey Lee Shumate of Cape May, N.J.; step-children and their spouse Sherry Luper of Galax, Va.; Stacey & Chris Wojtowiz of Galax, Va.; Regina Rector of Woodlawn, Va.; Rebecca Rector of Concord, N.C.; Steven & Karissa Grimes of Freemont, Ohio; sister & brother-in-law Wanda & Butch Byrd of Mt. Airy, N.C.; brothers & sisters-in-law Sam & Patsy Shumate of Collinsville, Va.; Harold & Linda Shumate of Woodlawn, Va.; twenty-one grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 28, 2008 at 11:00 am in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Austin Goodwin & Rev. Bobby Burcham officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Quaker Graveyard. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from seven until nine at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
