Glen A. Zuhlke of Galax Virginia born March 10, 1930 in Sterling Colorado to Elmer A. and Mary Mabel Spencer Zuhlke the 5 th of 6 children (James, Margaret, Leroy, Dale and Romayne). Glen passed away on Monday December 28, 2020 at the age of 90 at the Wythe County Hospital from complications of Covid-19.
He leaves behind a loving wife Nellie, Daughter Mona Menezes, Son David Zhulke (Both live in Missouri.) Step-children Patricia Smith and husband Randy (Dublin, VA) and Ben and Barbara Turman (Galax, VA.) 3 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
By his request there will be no funeral service.
Glen grew up during the Great Depression, lived in the Dust Bowl and survived the infamous "Blizzard of 49." He joined the Navy when the Korean War broke out and proudly served on the USS O'Brien DD-725.
After discharged he moved to Missouri and started a dairy farm and sold milk to Kraft. Where in 1960 he took a field man job at Kraft. In 1975 the company transferred him to Independence, VA, where he married Nellie in 1984.
Glen was a guitar and harmonica player which he won numerous awards for. He was an original member of the "Kitchen Band" (1978) He played weekly at area nursing homes for the last several years.
