Glen Rex Bartlett "Bi-State", age 93, of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday November 15, 2021 in his home.

Glen was born on January 16, 1928 in Grayson County, Virginia to Josie Verna Bartlett    Taylor. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by sisters Thelma Bullins, Gladys Vaughan; and brother Camet Bartlett.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Bartlett of the home; son and daughter-in-law Rex and Nancy Bartlett of Stoneville, North Carolina; and grandson DW Bartlett of Burlington, North Carolina. Also surviving is step-daughter Susie McCulloch of the home; step-grandchildren Robert McCulloch, Brooke McCulloch; step-great-grandson Ryan McCulloch; and many nieces and nephews.

Most locals knew him by the name "Bi-State." This nickname came when he was a very young man and apparently came to be after a particularly rowdy night out and he told someone he would "just buy the state." The nickname "Bi-State" stayed forever. You could not beat him at any card game, a game of pool, or playing checkers—he was a wiz. He enjoyed fishing for catfish and hunting.

A funeral service will be held Thursday November 18, 2021 at 2:00PM in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Carroll Lineberry and Doug Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home from 1:30PM until time of the service. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the Galax Volunteer Fire Department or any Rescue Squad of the donor's choice.
