Gladys Ella Johnson Higgins age 94 of Galax, Virginia (the Baywood Community) passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Waddell Nursing Home.

Mrs. Higgins was born in Grayson County, Va. on September 17, 1914 to Roy & Ella Kirby Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Higgins; three granddaughters Sarah Ann Robinson; Laura Suzanne Nichols and Erin Walls; a grandson Erik Walls and a brother Harold Johnson.

She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law Donald & Helen Higgins; daughters & son-in-law Katie & Glen Walls all of Galax,Va. (Baywood Community); Ella Jane Robinson of Shreveport, La.; grandchildren & spouses Steve Robinson of Galax, Va.; Karen Lunsford of Independence, Va.; Carol & Jerry Hash of Galax, Va.; Brad & Wen Higgins of New York, NY; Jason Higgins and special friend Cecilia Zappa of Burlington, N.C.; Kari Walls & Isaac Passmore of Roanoke, Va.; great-grandchildren Sarah & David Silva-Alvarez of Independence, Va.; Kevin Lunsford of Monroe, La. Heath Hash of Galax, Va.; Amber & Staci Robinson of Statesboro, Ga.; step-son Danny Walls of Millington, Tn.; sisters Jean L. Rock of Narvon, Pa.; Cathrine Brooks & Rosemary Johnson both of Ennice, N.C.; one niece; three nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 17, 2009 at 12:00 o'clock noon in Felts Memorial Cemetery with Elder Reuben Hawks officiating. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 10:00 until 11:30 at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to the Baywood Search and Rescue Squad.
