Gilmer Allen "Sam" Grimes, age 64, of Galax, VA died Saturday, May 19, 2013 at the Golden Living-Blue Ridge Nursing Home, Galax, VA.
Mr. Grimes was born in Carroll County, VA Aug. 30, 1948 to Hobert Allen & Hazel Porterfield Grimes.
His father and his brother, Larry Grimes, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jewel Grimes of the home; daughter
& son-in-law, Lori & Evan Richardson, Carroll Co., VA; son & daughter-in-law, David & Sandy Grimes, Carroll County, VA; mother, Hazel Alley, Galax, VA; grandchildren, Aiden Cooper Grimes, Kayleigh Elizabeth Grimes, Joshua Ty Burton; sisters, Jean Harvey, Bobbie Williams; brothers and sister-in-law, Roger & Vada Grimes and Foster Grimes, all of Galax, VA; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Monta Vista Cemetery, Galax, VA at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, VA. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Wonyal Smythers.
