Gilbert Arlington Fortner's Obituary
Gilbert Arlington Fortner age 89 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mr. Fortner was born on September 7, 1927 to Eddie Clyde and Sarah Elizabeth Frazier Fortner.
He proudly served his country in the US Army.
He is survived by his wife Betty Jones Fortner of Galax, Virginia; children and spouses Phyllis and Kenneth Pierce of Dayton, Tennessee; Roland and Laura Fortner of Elkhorn, Nebraska; James E. Fortner of Wytheville, Virginia; Sandra and Terence Knowlton of Christiansburg, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law Wesley and Marie Fortner of Galax, Virginia; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Ken Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in the McKenzie Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12 noon until time for the funeral service.
