Gertrude Mabe Thomas went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Waddell Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was born in Carroll County, Virginia to Benjamin Joseph Mabe and Martha Lawson Mabe. She was preceded in death by her husband James E. "Jim" Thomas.

Survivors include her only daughter, Diana Thomas Price and husband Ralph Price of Marion, Virginia. Two precious grandchildren, Martha Alderman Cole and her husband Brad Cole of Galax, Virginia and Jay Alderman and his wife Shannon Alderman also of Galax. Two great granddaughters, Sydney Kate and Addisyn Claire Alderman. One brother, Paul Mabe, two sisters-in-law, Dell Mabe and Sue Mabe as well as several nieces and nephews. One very special friend and daughter in the Lord, Martha Moore.

Gertrude loved her family and loved to provide a very good life for her family.

A visitation and celebration of Gertrude's life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm with funeral services to follow at 1:00 pm at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with the Reverend Harvey Carico officiating. Burial will follow in Felts Cemetery in Galax.
