George Woodford Williams' Obituary
George Woodford Williams age 81 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009.
He was born in Grayson County, Virginia on July 11, 1927 to Claude S. and Sina C. Cooley Williams.
He was a member of Mt. Vale United Methodist Church , a 1944 honors graduate of Galax High School,served in Korea and was a lifelong dairy and beef cattle farmer.
George had great love and compassion for animals having provided a loving home for a multitude of beagle dogs from his childhood until his death.
He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Williams; Mildred and Glenn Wilson all of Galax, Va.; one nephew Gregory (Greg) Wilson of Floyd, Va.; one niece Kay Vest of Roanoke, Va.; one great-niece Kacie Vest of Roanoke, Va.. and two loyal loving pet beagles, Hannah and Jill.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Mt. Vale United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Lindamood officiating. Burial will follow in the Coal Creek Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at Mt. Vale United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Coal Creek Cemetery Fund in care of David Cooley, 1090 Shepherd Place, Galax, Va. 24333.
