George Otey Rector age 85 of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the home of his son.

Mr. Rector was born in Carroll County, Virginia on May 15, 1930 to Posey and Emma Edwards Rector. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Virginia Ann (Ginny) Reynolds.

Having served his country in the US Army he was a Retired First Sergeant and a Korean War Veteran.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Liz) Rector of Galax, Virginia; daughter Sherri Rector Reynolds and husband Jim of Atlanta, Georgia; son Shawn Otey Rector and wife Felicia of Hillsville, Virginia; two grandsons John Cody Semones and Joseph Otey Reynolds; three step-grandchildren Jimmy Reynolds; Jamie Reynolds and Alexis Reynolds; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and George Johnston of Johnsonville, Tennessee; sisters-in-law and spouses Thelma R. and William Barr of Hillsville, Virginia; Kathy Jo and Stanley Carter of Galax, Virginia; beloved nieces and nephews who are his other daughters and sons.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Skyview Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Fox, Pastor Ron Hill and Shawn Otey Rector officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery with Military Rites by Fort Lee. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
