George William Jones age 91 of Fries, Virginia passed away with his loving wife by his side on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at this home.

Mr. Jones was born in Grayson County, Virginia on April 12, 1933 to Lonnie Cole and Essie Byrd Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters Alice Mae Funk and Judy Marie Jones; sisters Orpha Taylor; Iva Vaughan and an infant sister Gladys Faye Jones; brothers Curtis Jones; Warren Jones and Homer Jones.

He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Johnson of Fries, Virginia; special son-in-law Brian L. Funk of Abingdon, Virginia; sisters and brother-in-law Lena Mae and Russell Clontz of San Antonia, Texas; Betty Ann Stone of Burlington, North Carolina; three special grandsons and spouses Joshua Cole and Stacey Funk; William Benjamin and Michelle Funk; John Curtis and Marta Kirby; four very special great-grandchildren Kyleigh Funk; Kendall Funk; Alicia Kirby and Kenton Kirby; two special  nieces and spouses Meta and P.J. Smith; Annette and Charles Hamilton; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Hamilton officiating. There will be no visitation.
