Geneva
Leonard
November 6, 1928 – February 20, 2023
Beloved mother and grandmother, Geneva Delp Leonard, woke up on February 20, 2023, to see the glory of Heaven. She was blessed with 94 years of life and will always be remembered for her humble, kind spirit. She found joy in sharing her faith and taking care of others.
The love she had for her family was immeasurable, as was their love for her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Guida Delp, and her husband, Horace Leonard. Left to cherish her memory are her three precious children: Horace Leonard, Jr. (Sharon), Sharon Miller (Roger), and Debbie Newman (Allen). She was adored by her six grandchildren: Lisa Muncy (Kevin), Amy Vaughan (Richard), Heather Snow (Dustin), Melanie Caudill (Carl), Kasey Sizemore (Derek), and Mark Miller (Katie). She also had ten great-grandchildren who were blessed to know and love her: Jacob Vaughan (Emily), Kayla McMurray, Austin McMurray (Kaitlin), Emily Vaughan, Kyler Lewis, Ally Lewis, Maiya Caudill, Ella Grace Miller, Bret Snow, and Amber Muncy. Three great-great-grandchildren also enjoyed occasional spoiling by Granny Leonard: Addison & Aubrey Muncy, and Aria Rose.
Geneva was born on November 6, 1928, in the Brush Creek community of Carroll County, VA. In later years, she and Horace made their home in Fries, and it became the favorite place for her loved ones to gather and make wonderful memories. She was full of energy, caring for her family and working at the Fries Cotton Mill until it was closed. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always carried a smile.
Her Christian faith was a wonderful example for her family. She read her well-worn Bible all the way through dozens of times, continuing as long as her eyesight allowed. The words lived in her heart, and she would often recite scripture even when her mind lacked clarity in her final years. It was a blessing and comfort to those who loved her endlessly. She was a faithful member of Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended until her health began to decline. She instilled a love of music in her children at a young age, and they faithfully continue to use their musical gifts each week in that same church.
A celebration of Geneva's life will be held at Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church at 3:00 Wednesday, February 22, with Pastors Gary Riffe and Jeff Wilson officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 2:00 until time for the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers or donations to Fries PH Church are appreciated.
The family will also receive friends at the home of Debbie & Allen Newman.
