Gayland "Rowdy" Powers, 65, of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, August 5, 2013 at his home. Rowdy was born June 6 1948 in High Point, NC to W. O. Powers and Estrella Vaughn Powers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step daughter Marcy Hendrix.

He is survived by Joan Burris Weatherman of Galax; daughters Sherri Lynn Powers and Karen Felice Powers Bell both off Hamptonville, North Carolina; step children: Debra Felts, Dedra Lineberry and Tim Weatherman all of Galax; sister Lovie Powers of Cameron, North Carolina; brother Lamar Powers of Aberdeen, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Brandon Hudson, Regan Hudson, Ashlee Kilpatrick, Kayla White, Kallie Bell, great grandchild: Bentley Hudson; step grandchildren: Weston Felts, Logan Felts, Gavin Weatherman, Morgan Weatherman, Ried Lineberry, and Brayden Weatherman.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Myron Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in the McKenzie Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until service time.
