Gary Wayne Shelar, Sr., age 65, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at his home. He was born July 28, 1951 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Claude Shelar and Daisy Gladys Sizemore Shelar.


Mr. Shelar is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Rebecca Grimes & Billy Joe ; Cindy Denton and Tony all of Galax; two sons and daughters-in-law Donald Shelar and Tammy of Woodlawn; Gary Wayne Shelar Jr. and Treca of Wytheville; one brother Carroll Dean Shelar of Mauldin, South Carolina; half sister Rose; ten (10) grandchildren; one (1) great grandchild; special friend Debra Walker and ex-wife Barbara Barber and husband Glenn of Galax, Virginia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Hillsville Church of God with Wilma Carroccio and the Rev. Jeff Pickett officiating. Interment will follow in the Jennings Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening (November 4 , 2016) from 6:00 o'clock until 8:00 PM at the church.
