Freddie Sue Swinney, age 79, of Galax, Virginia passed away Friday December 31, 2021 in her home.

Freddie was born on July 25, 1942 in Yadkinville, North Carolina to Terry & Hattie Cain Hodge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Emma Lou Hodge, Brenda Sue Hodge,  Clara (Tootsie) Griffin, Joyce Linda Shaw; half-brother Terry Hodge; and great-grandson Aven Robert McCann.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years Glen "Joe" Swinney of Galax, Virginia; children Wayne and Tena Swinney of Woodlawn, Virginia, Tresea and Lester Felts of Galax, Virginia, Craig and Dawn Swinney of Low Gap, North Carolina; grandchildren Nicole and Marc McCann, Anthony Felts, Elena and Charity Felts, Crissa Swinney and Fiancee Katiana Desgrottes, Madison Swinney and Carson Swinney. Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law Kay and Kenneth Belton of Baywood, Virginia, Terry Lynn Burnett of Independence, Virginia, Shirley and Frank Jennings of Baywood, Virginia, Nancy and Garey Cummings of Burlington, North Carolina, Wanda and Ricky Bemis of Fries, Virginia; brothers and sisters-in-law Earnest and Patricia Hodge of Galax, Virginia, Tommy and Betty Hodge of Elkin, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Freddie was not only a loving wife and mother, but also loved to flatfoot and even clogged with the Bibs and Babes Group. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday January 4, 2022 @ 3PM in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery in Sparta, North Carolina with Rev. Frank Jennings officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation.
