Francis Eugene (Gene) Othic age 81 of Woodlawn, Virginia passed away Wednesday February 21, 2024 in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Mr. Othic was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 22, 1942 to Maurice and Helen Kessler Othic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Pat Denning, the lady who raised him.

Mr. Othic proudly served his country in the US Navy and retired as  Lieutenant Commander.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Doris Brown Othic of Woodlawn, Virginia; children and spouses Lona Shareen and Jack Simms of Alaska; Robin Maureen Pickett and Terry Myers of Hillsville, Virginia; Patricia Michelle and Travis Stanley of Laurel Fork, Virginia; Brendan Eugene and Ericka Othic of Florida; stepchildren and spouse Edwrd Lee and Joyce Morgan, Jr. of Hillsville, Virginia; Cheryl Anne Bath of Charleston, South Carolina; Virgil Anthony Morgan of Hillsville, Virgina. brothers and sister-in-law Mark and Cathy Othic; Mike Othic all of Tucson, Arizona; Jerry Othic of Florida; three  half-sisters and spouse Mary Woods of California; Patricia and Stanley Pryzbocki; Penny; twenty grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend Paul Hanson; special feline friend Tobi; canine friend Shadow.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 3:00 PM in the Midway Heights Community Church with Brother Max Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Cranberry with full Military Honors by the Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 PM until time for the funeral service at Midway Heights Community Church
