Frances Ann Kearney Hamilton of Galax, VA passed away on May 27, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born on May 6, 1934 in Richmond, VA to Margaret and Lawrence Kearney. She lived most of her life in Richmond but moved to Galax later in life to be closer to family members.
Frances was a devout Christian who loved to read her Bible and spend time in prayer. She also loved to sing Christian music and was known for writing gospel songs. She had a few of them recorded in the seventies by The Hopper Brothers and Connie. One song, "The Road to Damascus", was chosen by them as the name of an album they recorded in 1976 and credit for it was printed on the front of the album cover. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and also bird watching.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Berkley Hamilton, III, and her sons, Albert Frederick Cushman, Jr., Thomas Edward Cushman, Kenneth Wayne Cushman, and John Berkley Hamilton, IV. She is survived by her daughters Brenda Cushman Rehg of Atlanta, GA and Leslie Joanne Radcliff of Galax, VA. Also surviving her are eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Monday from 10:00 AM until time to leave for the service.
