Frances Smith James age 89 of Elkin, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in the Northern Hospital of Surry County.

Mrs. James was born in Gary, West Virginia on September 2, 1934 to Thomas and Vada Ayers Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Tommy James; three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-law Vada Lyons of Bedford, Virginia; Vicky and Jeff Swain of Elkin, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law Brad and Marti James of Max Meadows, Virginia; grandchildren Brad and Erica Lyons; Rebekah and Sam Mosley; Dedra and Jason Kline, Sarah and Ryan Parsons; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM in the Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Haga officiating.  Burial will follow in the River Hill Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Grace Baptist Church.
