Obituary

Frances Dotson Douglas, "Nanny", 84 of Galax, VA, made her way home to Jesus on Monday, November 14, 2022. She was born to the late Charles Boyd and Blanche Ruth Bedsaul Dotson on Sunday, May 15, 1938. Being born and raised during The Great Depression molded her character and created a lasting influence on her life. Fran met her best friend and soulmate, Basil Weaver Douglas, in high school. They had one daughter, Donna Douglas Gates. They enjoyed talking on the phone often, about anything and everything. Fran used to work for the Galax Gazette as an editor, she was a librarian at The Galax Library, and she worked in Medical Records at The Southwest VA Mental Health Hospital in Marion. Fran was the oldest of two. She enjoyed exchanging humorous birthday cards with her sister, Sue Baudoin, each year. It was a welcome challenge and they never let each other down. Fran loved talking with her beloved family and friends. She chatted often with Betty Ruth Payne, Helen Warf, Ronnie Taylor, Debbie Carroll, Gladys Bates, and many more. They are very special family and friends in her life. Growing up in Nanny and Pawpaw's house; Jeremy and I, knew all the latest soap opera news, we always watched Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Antique's Roadshow. Nanny loved playing Bingo on Tradio with Big-O, and taught us how to play. She loves reading and read through The Bible three times. She had a passion for birds, crossword puzzles, poetry, genealogy, playing cards, piano, and of course, going yard saling every weekend. But her favorite thing to do was spend time with family. Nanny was a frequent customer of our children's beauty shop and fancy restaurants, allowing them to give her a fabulous new hairdo and to taste the latest pretend Robinson cuisine. She adored her great-grandchildren, Elijah, Micah, Jonah, Levi, Noah and Arielle Robinson. We always spent most of our time together, hanging out, bird watching, sitting on the carport watching the kids play outside, and most importantly, taking care of her every need. Our lives are forever changed. No one spread more love in one lifetime than her. "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Revelations 21:4." We all hold you in our hearts until we can hold you again in Heaven. We all love you and miss you like crazy.

Fran was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Basil Douglas, and their infant son, Terry Scott Douglas. Fran is survived by her daughter and fiancé, Donna Gates and Johnny Howell, of Burlington, NC; Granddaughter and Grandson-in-law, Heather and Joshua Robinson, of Galax, VA; Grandson, Jeremy Gates, of Burlington, NC; Six special Great-grandchildren, Elijah, Micah, Jonah, Levi, Noah and Arielle Robinson, of Galax, VA; Sister and Brother-in-law, Sue and Ron Baudoin, of Kingman, AZ; and several Nieces and Nephews.

There will be no services for Ms. Frances Douglas. The sun has set on an amazing life. This isn't goodbye forever, this is only goodbye for now.
