Fern Janis Winesett Porterfield age 91 of Hillsville, Virginia passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 in the Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hillsville, Virginia.

Mrs. Porterfield was born in Carroll County, Virginia on October 25, 1928 to Charlie Willis and Nina Lawson Winesett. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Porterfield; sister and brother-in-law Iva Merle and Melborne Sharp; brother-in-law Barney Cowan.

She was a member of the Cliffview Church of God since 1971. She attended Christ Chapel with her son Ivan as long as her health permitted her to do so.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Ivan Porterfield of Galax, Virginia; Don and Sue Lynn Porterfield of Louisville, Kentucky; Keith and Robyn Porterfield of Roanoke, Virginia; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Nina Sue and Roger Hutchens of Galax, Virginia; Ercell Cowan of Greensboro, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held in the Monta Vista Cemetery with David White and Jackie Poe officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date with time and place to be announced. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to either the Christ Chapel Building Fund or to the Joy Ranch for Children.
