Fern Davis Higgins age 94 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 in the Waddell Nursing Home.

Mrs. Higgins was born on April 16, 1917 in Carroll County, Virginia to Estel and Rosa Cox Davis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lauren P. Higgins; daughter Rosa Smith; sisters Itylene; Donna; Phoebei; Lois; Mable and Frances; brothers Elmer; Floyd; Grant and Perry.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Floyd and Deborah Higgins of Roanoke, Virginia; grandchildren and spouse Timothy and Beth Higgins; Allen Clifford Smith; Theresa Riggins and special grandchild Mona Higgins; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive as does a brother Henley Clarence Davis of Galax, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Marvin Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
