Everett Cabell

Everett Cabell Dalton age 86 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.
Everett was born in Carroll County, Virginia on March 28, 1935 to Orville and Maggie Dalton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 27 years, Gelene Hanks Dalton, son-in-law Sam Todd and several siblings.
Everett served in the Army for seven years and was a life-time member of the Ruritans and Masons. Everett is known far and wide for his many accomplishments with his dogs, having won hundreds of dog bench shows and hunting events, including national championships with his coon dogs. He also bred beagles and won bench shows and hunting events with them. Everett received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bluetick Breeders Association.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Elna Sue Haymore Dalton, daughter Rhonda Todd both of Galax, Virginia; step-daughters and husbands Cindy and Ronald Wright; Robin and Steve Ashburn all of Pinnacle, North Carolina; Paula Whitfield of King, North Carolina; step-son and wife Willie and Sandra Haymore of Pinnacle, North Carolina; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Gregory and the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Pipers Gap Rescue Squad.
