Eunice Vera Johnson Fortner age 92 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Fortner was born in Durham, North Carolina on December 27, 1923 to Earl and Lillie Macemore Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Fortner, son Michael Fortner, two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her children and spouses Betty and Ray Lineberry of Galax, Virginia; Robert "Bobby" and Patricia Fortner of Hamptonville, North Carolina; Judy and David McMickle of Fries, Virginia; Eugene Fortner and Shawn Metzler of Roanoke, Virginia; Roger and Teresa Fortner of Fries, Virginia; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and special caregiver Teresa Poland.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at twelve noon in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Marvin Williams and Lawrence Warden officiating. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 AM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
