Estelle Gordon Akers age 96 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Akers was born on September 21, 1921 to Gems and Nancy Ann Jane Guynn Akers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Mae Bullins Akers; daughter Estellene Slate; sons Junior Akers and Herman Wayne Akers; daughter-in-law Janie Akers and a son-in-law Kenneth Isom.

He proudly served his country in the US Army.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law Joyce Isom; Nancy Akers both of Galax, Virginia; Wanda and Paul Jones of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law Harold and Carolyn Akers; Roger Akers all of Galax, Virginia; Danny and Chandra Akers of Pilot, North Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Rodney Christman officiating. Burial will follow in the Galax City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
