Emma Lucille Carr age 90 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Carr was born on October 25, 1925 in Grayson County, Virginia to Otie Lawrence and Charlotte Bartlett Leonard. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James D. Carr, Sr.; sister Louise Cooley; brothers Thomas, Gene, Bobby and Ray Leonard.

She is survived by her son J.D. Carr, Jr. of Galax, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Pat and Chipper Thornton of Summerfield, North Carolina; grandchildren and spouse Jay Carr; Paula and Donnie Melton; great-grandchildren Shannon, Shelby and Jayson Carr; Paige and Tiffany Melton; sisters and brother-in-law Gaye Hale; Lillian and Harold McMillan; Betty Jennings; Carolyn Cox all of Galax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brandon Berg and the Rev. Ted Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until time for the funeral service at the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church.
