Elsie Martin Roop, 94, formerly of Fries, Virginia, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Shenandoah House of Augusta Medical Center, Waynesboro, Virginia.

Born on November 22, 1919, she was the daughter of Kate and Isaac Martin. She was preceded in death by husband Baker Warren Roop on December 6, 1979. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are one son, Terry and wife Gloria, Surfside Beach, South Carolina; two daughters Carolyn Vaness of Murray ,Kentucky and Sandra Clark and husband Brian of Waynesboro, Virginia. Also six grandchildren and six great grandchildren are surviving.

She was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church, Fries, Virginia. She enjoyed many years of exercise classes and travel with her friends at the Galax Recreation Center Senior Group. Also among her hobbies were quilting and music. She was a resident of Martinsville, Virginia many years.

A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Ben Haga officiating. Interment will follow in the Fries Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
