Elsie Marie Smith Payne age 83 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 in the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Elsie was born in #10 Gary, West Virginia on February 22, 1938 to Howard Harrison Smith and Susie Jane Day Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Edna Yount and brother Howard Smith.

She is survived by her husband Billy Dean Payne of the home, children and spouses Jeff Payne; Cindy and Rick Moncus; Duane and Teresa Payne and Alan Payne all of Galax, Virginia, grandchildren Jack Moncus, Christopher Moncus, Gage Payne; great-grandchildren Eden and Eli Moncus; Kyleigh Moncus, brother Willie D. Smith of Salem, Virginia; special caregiver and friend Lynn Vaughan; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Sam Holder officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
