Elizabeth Horvath, 100, died Sunday February 13, 2022, at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville, Virginia.

Elizabeth was born November 15, 1921, in New York City, New York.  She was the loving daughter of John and Elizabeth (Garan) Petze, Hungarian immigrants.

Elizabeth graduated from Queens College in 1941 with a degree in Economics.  She worked on Wall Street in New York City.   On September 2, 1945 Elizabeth married Andrew Horvath of Youngstown, Ohio.  In 1955 along with her husband and two children, she moved to West Hurley, New York where she resided for 55 years.  In that time, she was a devoted housewife and mother, earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education from SUNY New Paltz, and had a teaching career in West Hurley Elementary School until she retired in 1982.  She was a member of Fair St Reformed Church in Kingston, NY. An Honorary Lifetime member of the Woodstock Golf Club where she also served on the Board of Directors. A Board member of the Ulster County Senior's Women's Golf Association. She was a member of the Kingston Hospital Auxiliary and Onteora Retired Teachers Association, as well as a Trustee of the West Hurley Library.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother John Petze; and husband, Andrew, on August 5, 2010.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Michael) Chance of Floyd, VA, her son, Drew (Antoinette) Horvath of Woodlawn, VA, and grandson, Andrew Horvath of Broomfield, CO.

A memorial service will be held at Vaughan – Guynn Funeral Home in Galax, VA on February 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM.

Burial will take place at a later date at Tongore Cementary in Olivebridge, New York.
