Elizabeth Marie Jackson Coe of Walnut Cove, North Carolina and formerly of Galax, Va. departed this life on Sunday, October 18, 2009. She was born April 1, 1920 in the Brush Creek Community of Grayson County, Va. to Clint and Alice Jones Jackson.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George William Coe in 1980 and brothers Haswell and Kyle Jackson.
She was a graduate of Fries High School, and Radford State Teachers College in 1943. She taught home economics at Draper High School, and married George William Coe, the love of her life on July 28, 1944.
They lived in the Panama Canal Zone from 1945-1951, where she worked in a military aircraft parts supply depot.
Upon returning to the United States,she and her husband operated a successful cattle and poultry layer farm in Orange County, Va. during the 1950's. They moved to Accokeek, Maryland where both she and her husband worked for ten years at the Indian Head Arsenal.
She and her husband retired to Galax, Va. in the early 1970's where they devoted the majority of their time caring for her aging parents.
She moved to Walnut Cove, North Carolina in 2005 to live near her sister and nieces.
She was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included but were not limited to playing bridge and traveling. She was an avid reader with interests in financial markets, national and international news.
She is survived by her sister & brother-in-law Geneva Jackson & Wendell Byrd of Rural Hall, N.C.; nieces & spouses Mary & Mark White; Sarah & Tom Tran; nephews & spouse Steve & Jan Jackson; Tom Jackson; James Williams; four grand nieces & spouse Amanda Jackson; Lauren Jackson; Savanna & Justin Yount; Sheree Jackson; one grand nephew Matthew White; several cousins; several other Coe family members.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 2:00 pm in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Ken Blevins officiating. Music will be provided by a special niece and her husband Mary Ann & Frank Archer. Burial will follow in Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior the funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family is most appreciative for the care provided to her at WFBMC on the Palliative Care Unit, with special thanks to Tiffany and Betty.
