Obituary

Eleanor Hale Chappell, 88, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, June 18th. She was a native of Elk Creek, Grayson County, Va., and the daughter of the late Vivian and Ethel Jean Hale. She is survived by her children, Edward W. (Lisa) Chappell of Murfreesboro and Marcia Chappell (Steve) Tallman of Richmond, Va; four grandchildren, Chaz Edwards Chappell and Candace Renee Chappell of Nashville, Keegan Webb Pyle of Orinda, California,and Theresa Hale Tallman of Richmond, Va.; and two sisters, Lois Hale Swecker of Roanoke, Va.; and Alverda Hale Rhudy of Scotia, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward Webb Chappell; an infant son, four sisters and one brother. She graduated from Elk Creek High School and the National Business College in Roanoke, Va.. She worked many years as secretary and treasurer of the Galax Furniture Co. in Galax, Va.. After World War II she worked for her husbands' hosiery company until their retirement. They then divided their time between Murfreesboro and Destin, Florida. After moving to Murfreesboro, she became a member of several local organizations including the Capt. William Lytle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Capt. Thomas Jamison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonies, and the Murfreesboro Women's Club.She ws an avid bridge enthusiast, and enjoyed her many bridge groups and friends both in Murfreesboro and Florida. She was an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church since 1959 and an associate member of Community Church in Santa Rosa, Florida. Her sweet spirit and smiling face live on in all those who knew and loved her. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 19th at 3:00 PM in Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00 at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. The family request memorials be made to the St. Marks United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1267 N. Rutherford Blvd., Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37130 in memory of Mrs. Chappell.
