Eldred Hiter Robinson, Jr., age 86, went to be with the Lord on November 17, after an extended decline in health. A native of Norton, Virginia, he was the eldest son of Eldred Hiter Robinson, Sr. and, Mary Gertrude Robinson.

He attended Norton High School where he excelled in sports. Upon graduation from high school in 1943 he was called to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII and proudly served his country as a member of General Omar Bradley's staff. He was a member of the 37th division which was part of the Normandy invasion and later as a unit of the occupation forces in Belgium and Germany. He was honorably discharged as a 2nd lieutenant in 1946 and immediately upon return to Virginia, enrolled as a pre-dental student at the University of Richmond, his father's alma mater. It was there that he fell in love with and married a beautiful young coed, Jane Haddon Pitt, a Richmond native. Upon completion of the program at the University of Richmond, he attended the Medical College of Virginia where he obtained his doctor of dental surgery degree, in 1952. Following his graduation from MCV, Hiter began his practice in Fries, Virginia, and moved several years later to the bigger town of Galax, where he resided the rest of his life. Dr. Robinson devoted his life to his family, friends, patients, and the city of Galax. He was involved in a number of community and civic organizations, including having served as a member of the Galax City School Board, a member of the Rotary Club, and an active member of his church, First Baptist Church of Galax. He was a loyal friend to many, an accomplished golfer and an avid college football fan.
