Obituary

Edward Clarence Alderman went to be with his Lord on December 8, 2020. He passed away at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, V.A.

Edward was born on April 18, 1931 to the late George and Daisy Alderman. He served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was stationed in Leipheim Germany from November 3, 1952 until March 1, 1954 during the Korean War. He was discharged from the Army Reserves on March 26, 1960.

He was an active member in his church and community. He took great pride in being a member of the Gladeville Ruritan Club, Hillsville VFW, and the Moose Lodge of Galax. He joined the Gladeville Ruritan Club on April 1, 1963 and was the last living charter member. He worked with the Gladeville Ruritan Club for 57 years and loved volunteering to fix popcorn at their booth at the Galax Fiddlers Convention each year.

His favorite pastimes were walking on the New River Trail, going to baseball games, and listening to bluegrass music. His favorite baseball team was the Cincinnati Reds and he loved making trips up to see his home team. He was an avid collector of baseball cards and comic books. He loved to read and he collected books of all genres. He was also a huge western movie buff.

He is survived by his daughter Regina (David) Mabe of Woodlawn; two grandchildren Christina Mabe of Wilmington, N.C. and Heather Mabe of Hillsville; three great-grandchildren Caitlynn Pritchard, Constantine Mabe, and Finnley Mabe; one sister Mary Melton of Woodlawn; one brother Dennis Everett (Joyce) Alderman of Woodlawn; son-in-law Brian Jones of Ivanhoe, Virginia; and many nieces, nephews and extended family including his sweet cat Doc Blue. He is preceded in death by his wife Nona Jean Alderman; parents George and Daisy Alderman; and his beloved daughter Sabrina Alderman.
There will be a memorial graveside service on Saturday December 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Monta Vista Cemetery with Rev. Randy Morris officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the family requests that guests wear masks and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Galax, VA, Gladeville Ruritan Club, and to the food bank of Galax, VA.
