Edna Faye Smythers Bryant, age 82, entered into Heaven's gates on December 2, 2013 at the Twin County Regional Hospital
She was born May 13, 1931 to the late Michael S. Smythers and Cora Melton Smythers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Cecil Ray Bryant; a son Larry Cecil Bryant; five brothers, Ralph, Guy, Carl, Vinton and Marvin Smythers; two sisters, Gladys S. Lineberry and Nina S. Robinson.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ron Porter and Becky Bryant , all of Galax, Virginia and Kathy and Ron Rucker of Roanoke, Virginia; three grandchildren and spouse, Justin and Candace Iroler of Hillsville, Virginia, Meritha Rucker of Martinsville, Virginia, and Tony Rucker of Arlington, Virginia; two step grandchildren and spouse, Chris and Karen Porter of Hillsville, Virginia and Kerri Porter of Galax, Virginia; two great grandchildren, Catrina and Carson Iroler of Hillsville, Virginia; three step great-grandchildren: Angelica, Philip, and Allison Porter of Hillsville, Virginia; two sisters Goldie S. Harmon of Hillsville, Virginia and Maggie S. Sharpe of Roanoke, Virginia. Several nieces and nephews, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law. A special caregiver Sandy Schnare.

Faye graduated from Woodlawn High School. She retired from the Galax Gazette after 27 years.
She was a member of the Coulson Church of the Brethren where she played the piano, was a Deaconess, Treasurer of the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School, worked with the youth, helped with all the meals, and never ceased to be at church when the doors opened. She was a volunteer at Twin County Regional Hospital. Faye loved God, loved her family, enjoyed flowers, doing word puzzles, cooking, and playing with the grandkids.

The funeral service will be held Friday, December 6th, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Coulson Church of the Brethren with Pastor Harry Shelton, Reverend Russell Payne, and Rev. Tommy Brightwell officiating with burial following in the Coulson Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 5th, 2013 from 6 until 8 PM at the Coulson Church of the Brethren. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Coulson Church Ladies Aid.
